Losing weight can be hard work, especially when your genes don’t co-operate. While there are several effective ways to lose weight quickly, a new study has found that getting your proteins from vegetables will deliver faster results than protein intake from meat and dairy products.
In a study published in the Journal of Diabetes Investigation, researchers discovered that people who consumed higher amounts of vegetable protein were far less susceptible to obesity, diabetes and heart disease than those who got their protein from meat. A second research study by Nutrition Journal corroborated that finding, concluding that “plant protein intakes may play a role in preventing obesity.”
According to research done by the Pennsylvania State University, one of the best sources of proteins in achieving weight loss is Chia Seeds, which contains all nine essential amino acids that can be easily converted by the human body into muscle. Chia Seeds’ also has blood-sugar stabilizing ratio of satiating protein, fats and fiber that can further hasten weight loss.
Chia Seeds contain less protein than meats but don’t have any of the health risks.
Soybeans are another great source of proteins, with nutritionist and trainer Jay Cardiello stating that “steamed soybeans are rich in essential amino acids and fiber” and provide a solid dose of complete proteins and magnesium, a mineral that can help with muscle development.
Now this should surprise you — the hemp seed, marijuana’s edible, non-intoxicating cousin, is increasingly being recognized as a nutritional rock star. Studies have shown that the seeds are rich in protein, fiber and omega-3 fatty acids and can fight heart disease, obesity and metabolic syndrome.
As for grains, Quinoa is said to be the highest protein count and is also jam-packed with heart-healthy unsaturated fats. Like most grains, it is a great source of fiber, which can help you feel full for hours on end.
Gina Consalvo, RD, LDN of Eat Well with Gina vouches for Quinoa and other grains, stating:
“Made with sprouted grains, wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet and spelt, Ezekiel Bread contains 18 amino acids – including all of the nine essential amino acids.”
The power of vegetables cannot be underestimated, so it’s about high time you incorporated more of them in your diet. For those looking to lose weight, an effective recipe for success is less meat and dairy products and more vegetables.
